was originally formed in November of 1998. The band
consisted of Eric Cheng, Devin Keer, Jordan Beatty,
and Dean Fadden. After only 2 weeks together, the goup
managed to write 2 songs and learn a cover, and win
the 1998 McNally Battle of the Bands. They
recorded a self-titled 3-song album with the recording
time they won, and it was an instant hit with friends
of the band.
The band's growing success did
not stop there. In July 1999, after the departure of
Dean the drummer, an old acquaintance, Nic Dublanko,
was asked to join the band. The new ball took a while
to start rolling, but after much hard work, Mi5 was
stronger than ever before. The first major performance
with the new member was on December 7 at the 1999 McNally
Battle of the Bands. They placed first for the second
year in a row, but the victory was well-deserved.
This accomplishment was followed
by a performance at a McNally Pep-Rally. It was a success
because the band had to learn 10 cover songs in 2 weeks,
which were played well without the help of monitors
in front of 1200 students. It was challenging but was
a good experience nonetheless. The band played a successful
concert afterwards.
Sometime in Februrary Mi5 joined
Cracker Feend Records, a local record label run by teens.
Some of the band's work was presented on a Cracker Feend
compilation album and was, in our #1 fan's words, "The
best music on the album, by far!". Cracker Feend
Records also hosted a CD Realease Party where Mi5 played
to 300 wild teenagers from many different schools. This
was the last performance of the band to date, but there
are many more to come in the near future, so we'll keep
you posted!
